Life is Too Short to be Serious all the Time – Go Play!

Somewhere along the way, we were told that being “grown up” meant being serious, responsible, and productive.  Yes, this may be true, but I’m here to remind you that life isn’t JUST about responsibilities—it’s also about giving ourselves permission to laugh, explore, and play.

For me, I’ve had to let go of the need for perfection and for feeling like I “should” be a certain way.  I’ve learned that play is about having fun, giving myself permission to try something new (even if I’m not good at it), laughing at my mistakes, and finding joy in the messiness of life.

Here are a few suggestions for bringing more play into your life:

  • Dance in the kitchen while making dinner

  • Jump in a puddle instead of walking around it

  • Have a spontaneous “just because” celebration

  • Let yourself get lost in a fun activity without tracking time

  • Watch a funny movie or read a lighthearted book

Remember, joy is something you can choose, right here, right now.  So go ahead and dance like no one is watching, chase a butterfly, blow bubbles just because, say yes to silly moments and spontaneous adventures.  Because life isn’t just about getting things done–it’s about making space for wonder, fun, and those little bursts of happiness that make it all worthwhile.
